MCP media tools: generating images, video and audio right inside your assistant

5 min read

What MCP is, why it matters for media generation, and how an MCP connector lets Claude or Cursor create images, video, voice and music without leaving the chat.

MCP — the Model Context Protocol — is an open standard that lets an AI assistant like Claude or Cursor call outside tools. Instead of copying answers between a chat window and a separate app, you connect a "server" once and the assistant can use it directly. For media generation, that means you can ask for an image, a video, a voiceover or a track and get it back in the conversation, without opening a studio at all.

Why this matters for media

Most AI media tools are websites: you leave your workflow, describe what you want, wait, download, and come back. MCP collapses that loop. If you're already working with an assistant — drafting a landing page, writing a script, planning a campaign — you can say "generate a hero image for this" and the media appears alongside the text you're already writing. The assistant can also chain steps: make an image, then animate it, then add narration, all from plain instructions.

What an MCP media connector can do

  • Every kind of generation — images, video, voice and music, plus image utilities like background removal and upscaling, all callable in a sentence.
  • A reusable asset library — upload your product photos or a character once, give them a name, and reference them by an @handle in any later chat, so the assistant never has to re-ask for the file.
  • A quote before you spend — a good connector prices a request before running it and honors a spending ceiling you set, so an assistant can't run up a bill by misreading you.

How connecting works

It's deliberately boring: you add one URL in your client's connector settings, sign in once in the browser to link your account, and you're done — no API key to generate, no config file to edit. From then on the assistant can generate on your behalf against your credits. Our full walkthrough and the exact URL are on the MCP page.

Safety and cost, since an agent is spending for you

Handing a tool to an assistant raises a fair question: what stops it from spending too much? The protections that matter are a hard, per-request credit ceiling you set; automatic refunds when a generation fails; and content moderation that runs the same way it does on the web. Credits that never expire help too — there's no "use it or lose it" pressure. You can read how our pricing works on the pricing page.

Who it's for

MCP media tools are most useful if you already live in an AI assistant — developers, writers, marketers and anyone building with agents. If that's you, connecting a media server is the difference between "go make this in another tab" and "make this, here, now." Connecting takes about a minute, and every model is on every plan. Start on the MCP page, or explore the studios for images, video, voice and music first.
